One of the toughest challenges when using a fitness tracker platform, is logging food. The rest of the data captured is pretty much done automatically, as long as the fitness tracker battery is charged. When it comes to food logging, however, you have to enter each food item including estimating the serving size. First, let me give you a great tip for logging food using the Fitbit mobile app on your Apple IOS device, USE THE BAR CODE SCANNER! Here are is how it works!
When adding food into the Fitbit app on your Apple mobile device, you can save a ton of time by using the bar code function. Start by clicking the + icon (1) to Log Food. In the next screen, select the bar code icon (2), to launch the bar code scanner in the app. Your camera view will appear (3).
Start logging that food. Now here is a great cheat sheet for estimating serving size for each food item you enter. Notice how 1 ounce of Peanut butter (thumb) is smaller in size than 1 ounce of popcorn (2 handfuls).
The great news is that once you enter the food item, the app quickly remembers your most frequently entered, and will even group food items you typically eat together to further stream line the process. Just commit to logging everything for at least 1 week, and you will not only get the hang of it, you will discover very important details about your diet to help you live a healthier life!!!
